D-Tub Base Vehicle
The
D-tub is built onto a 1988 Chevy 3500 crew-cab, long bed, dually
truck. It was formerly used for hauling, but the engine died
so I got it for cheap. I ripped out everything not needed in an electric vehicle, like the engine, transmission,
exhaust pipes, axle, etc., saving lots of weight and making room for the D tub parts.
The
truck came with a 7' x 9' flatbed, which I stripped down to use as a
frame to build the stairs, decking and shower onto. I've ended up
mostly cutting apart the flatbed frame, but it was very useful when
trying to visualize where all the parts would go and how they would fit together.
The
rear seat was removed to make room for plumbing, and the tub
ingresses into the cab 14" for weight balance and space reasons.
The
suspension is currently stock, but that might change depending on how
it rides. I might remove the overload spring if it is never used,
just for weight savings.
I'd like to put in air bags to adjust the ride height depending on the
load. That way, if 10 people jump on, should be able to adjust
the tilt of the vehicle so that the water is level across the tub.
